Summer 2015-16 ut &About 19 Add a little glamour to your wine tour TAKE TO THE SKIES THERE'S nothing better than ying over the region by helicopter and taking in totally new perspectives, says Rigel Butler. The Forest Air pilot has spent time working in some fairly spectacular areas but says the local region has a lot to offer. "Some of my other favorite places have been the West Macdonnell ranges near Alice Springs, the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands and the Bogong high plains near Falls Creek in Winter," he said. "The ying in summer here is relaxed and fun and the weather is usually great. There are so many things to see from the air and every time I go up I see something different." Forest Air has been in the area since 1988, primarily doing agricultural work, and their tourism operation commenced in 2012. Their summer program offers ights which depart from the Albury airport over local highlights and tours to some of the premier vineyards. If you like a bit of glamour you might want to consider arriving at All Saints Winery in Rutherglen in style - by helicopter. The $640 per person tour might give you an insight into how the rich and famous feel on a typical Sunday outing! "On our All Saints Winery tour we depart Albury and y down the Murray River with views of the alps in the distance. On arrival we are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and guests are treated to a private tour of the winery with a decadent tasting session at the end. All followed by a three course lunch with matched wines," said Rigel. Forest Air also offer a 20 minute scenic ight which takes guests over Albury City, the Murray River and Wodonga then heads out to Lake Hume, ying over Bonegilla, the weir and Bethanga bridge before returning to the airport. This tour costs $210 per person. "Most people are surprised by the amount of places that they never knew existed in the local area. Also the completely different perspective that you get from a helicopter is a highlight for a lot of people," said Rigel. Forest Air can do tours to most of the other wineries in the Rutherglen region including Brown Brothers at Milawa. In an added touch of style, you could also request a pick up from a private property (out of town) if there is a suitable landing site. All tours can be fully customised and if a different location is requested it can be accommodated where possible. Forest Air conduct their ights in the three passenger Robinson 44 helicopter and and the Bell Long Ranger which can take up to six passengers, although is more comfortable with ve (everyone gets a window seat). Both aircraft cruise at about 200 kmph and provide excellent views of the surrounds. For more information contact 1300 731 450. Make a wine tour a little more exciting with arrival by helicopter.
