The couple recently took on the lease of the attraction and are intent on returning it to the Ettamogah that locals will remember from the good old days. Most will be familiar with the Ettamogah theme from the cartoons created by artist Ken Maynard (1928-1998) which were made famous through regular appearances in The Australasian Post. The Ettamogah Mob entertained millions of Australians for nearly 40 years. The Ettamogah Pub was rst opened in 1987. The aim back then was to create a themed family restaurant which would become a tourist icon. The timber building featured sloping walls and a distinctive architectural style true to the original cartoon design. Karina Mason is an Albury girl and remembers well visiting the Ettamogah when it was in its hey-day and her fond recollections are the driving force behind the pair s desire to make it one of the most family friendly pubs in the region. "It was a hive of activity out here when I was a child and we are really keen to get it back to that and make it somewhere you can come with the whole family. We have a young family and we understand the need to provide a place where an entire family can go -- where Mum and Dad can have a coffee, a drink or something to eat and there s open space and activities for the kids." Both Karina and Kevin have made a signi cant change to their lifestyle and have returned to Albury, with ve children aged between three and 16, after spending the past 10 years working in the nance industry in Melbourne. "We were looking for a change out of the nance industry and something that would suit us as a family. When I saw this opportunity I realised it was something we could take on from a business perspective and would also mean greater exibility for the family." The Ettamogah Pub has just released a new summer menu for the bistro and is ramping up their venue options with both the top oor of the pub open for bookings and a separate functions facility being renovated to cater for large groups. Weddings, birthday parties and special events will be well covered with a range of options available. The new coffee shop was opened in October and is opened seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. And it is expected that by the end of November the chemist, doctor s surgery and a small supermarket will be open. This will add to the existing lolly and candle shop and hairdressers that are currently operating. There s plans afoot for both a Christmas lunch and New Year s Eve event and the Ettamogah is already offering live entertainment on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. The venue is still true to theme and there s plenty of Maynard memorabilia and character on offer to see. It is hoped that the Maynard Museum will be returned to glory in the near future.
